It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Alan Ferenchik, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in Hilliard, OH. He was 83 years old.
Born on Dec. 27, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, Alan was the youngest and last surviving member of the seven Ferenchik children. He grew up on W. 100 Street during his youth in Cleveland where he attended and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1957. He went on to attend Kent State University, where he studied accounting. He graduated in 1961.
After a brief stint with Glidden Paints, he worked the remainder of his career (almost 40 years) as an accountant for PPG Industries with stops in Cleveland; Delaware, OH; Circleville, OH; and finally, the company's home office in Pittsburgh. Dad enjoyed reading (anything on the topic of World War II), watching movies (The Godfather and The Sting were two of his favorites) and rooting for his beloved Cleveland Browns. Although sadly, he never got to see them win that ever-elusive Super Bowl, he used to attend games frequently in their glory years. More than anything though, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Alan was preceded in death by his wife Germaine, who passed away in 2010 after they had retired to Aiken, S.C., as well as by his brothers and sisters, Mary, Michael, Margaret, Anne, Helen and Eli. Alan is survived by his sons Mark (Diane) of Columbus, OH; Kevin (Daphne) of Upper St. Clair, PA; Tim (Andrea) of Cumming, GA; daughter Laurie Holcomb (Harland) of Wakeman, OH; grandchildren Brian, Karen, Gabriella, Haylee and Cameron; and nieces and nephews.
Services at Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard will be private.
