Albert Hays

Albert Ellis Hays “Coach”, age 80, of Dublin, passed away May 30, 2010. Attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Dublin, US Navy Veteran, Graduate of Wintersville High School, Wintersville, OH, Graduate of the College of Steubenville, Steubenville, OH Class of 1957 and post graduate education at the University of West Virginia. Member of American Legion Post 614; where he was Sgt. at Arms, Hilliard, OH and was a Master Mason. Al retired from Steubenville Board of Education with 26 years of service, holding many positions that included Athletic Director, American History teacher, visiting teacher and attendance officer. Al also was a sports announcer with WSTV in Steubenville and member of the Ohio High School Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame. Served as Eastern District representative for the OHSADA for 9 years, President of the Eastern District for 5 years and spent 8 years on the State Board of Directors. In addition to his athletic involvement, Al was President of the national Alumni Association of the University of Steubenville for 2 years and on the Board of Directors for 8 years. During his retirement years he loved gardening and spending time with his family. Preceded in death by parents Albert F. and Naomi (Borham) Hays, brothers Robert, Jack, Gerald, James, William, and half brothers Charles and Harold. Survived by loving wife of 60 years Betty, children Cheryl Hays, Jayne (Robert) Cohn, Jennifer Sagun and Rachel (Aaron) Conley, grandchildren Jeremy Sagun, Erin, Payton and Evan Cohn, Ashlyn, Mikayla and Carmen Conley, brother Roger Hays and numerous loving relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Thursday 4-6 pm at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where funeral service will be held 6 pm Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 614, Hilliard, OH.
