Alexander James Ko, 25, passed away on May 2, 2016. Born November 16, 1990, in Dublin, Ohio, where he was raised, Alex attended Grizzell Middle School. He co-founded the first chess club in Dublin City Schools and was a two-time Ohio Chess Champion (grades 5 and 7), and helped his team win the 2002 Ohio K-12 Team Championship for grade 7. During this time, Alex also competed in taekwondo and received a Bronze Medal at a national competition in Las Vegas. A deep thinker and good student, he was honored for his classroom achievements as well, receiving the President’s Educational Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence and the Outstanding Achievement Award as a Third-Year Music Student in 2004. At Dublin Jerome High School (Class of 2008), Alex established another chess club, played the flute in the marching band for four years, and was recognized as an AP Scholar. Alex graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in 2011. He majored in Marketing and was a member of the honor society, Mu Kappa Tau.
Alex recently joined Bank of America Practice Solutions as a Project Manager. He enjoyed working and playing with his colleagues and was proud to place third in the Best Costume Contest for his Vampire Zombie look and carefully chose his outfit for Ugly Sweater Day. Alex is survived by his mother, Mary Ng Ko of Dublin, and his father, Edmond Ko, also of Dublin; maternal grandparents, Hung Pak Ng and Sau Lan Ng; uncle, Daniel Ng, his wife, Lily; uncle, Lawrence Ng, his wife, Lily, and their children, Michael and Christopher; aunt, Yolanda Ng, and her children, Samantha and Tiffany; numerous friends; and his beloved dog, Juno. Alex’s life will be celebrated on SATURDAY, May 14, 2016, at Dublin Community Church, 81 West Bridge Street, Dublin, Ohio with Pastor Lisa Bowersock officiating.
