Annette Orlando Black

d. March 1, 2010

Annette Frances Orlando Black unexpectedly departed this Earth on March 1, 2010, and will be greatly missed by her many family and friends. Annette was born September 28, 1955 and lived in Wickliffe, Ohio to begin her life. Born to Raymond and Mildred Orlando, she moved to the Columbus area to attend The Ohio State University in 1973, where she graduated in 1977. An active member of the Hilliard Davidson community, Annette was always willing to help people make Hilliard a better place to live. She was active as the Hilliard Davidson Senior Class Parent, Vice President of the Hilliard Davidson Soccer Booters Club, long time treasurer of the Glen Civic Association and Neighborhood Watch and a member of the board of trustees for the Oglala Lakota Sioux College in South Dakota. She was also an avid Cleveland Cavaliers supporter. Annette spent many hours of devoted attendance at her sons’ high school and club athletic contests in soccer, basketball and football. Annette retired from the Ohio Auditor of State as an assistant auditor in 2005. She began state service at the Ohio Treasurer of State and The Ohio State University prior to her auditing career. Her ability to work with different people helped make many, many state agencies better stewards of Ohio’s resources. Her last position, as an audit consultant with the Ohio Department of Education, helped Ohio’s 2000 educational entities provide educational services to 1.8 million schoolchildren. Anyone who knew Annette knew that she was a most devoted mother and she would say her two proudest accomplishments were her sons, Alex, a pharmacy student at Ohio Northern University, and Adam, a senior at Hilliard Davidson High School, who both survive her. She is also survived by her brother, Ross Orlando and his wife, Janice of Baltimore, Maryland and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Calling hours will be held at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard on March 4, 2010, from 5 pm to 8 pm and at Orlando-Donsante Funeral Home, 29550 Euclid Avenue, Wickliffe, Ohio on March 5, 2010, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Wickliffe, Ohio at 9:30 am on March 6, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Annette’s name be made to Children’s Hospital Foundation, PO Box 16810, Columbus, OH 43272.
