Anthony Wayne Mays, age 76 of Columbus, Ohio went to be with the Lord on May 8th, 2024. Wayne was born to the late Lew Wallace Mays and Charlotte Audrey Mays (Ellinger) on October 5th, 1947 at Waynesboro Community Hospital, Augusta County, Waynesboro, Virginia. He passed away from prior health issues and complications.
Wayne grew up in Waynesboro, VA with strong God loving parents and 3 brothers, Randall, Roger, and Andrew. He moved to Columbus, OH at the age of 12, joining the army at the age of 18. After discharge and returning from Vietnam, he found a job at Western Electric. It was there where he met the love of life, his wife Gail of 54 years. They settled down to have 4 children, Kevin, Brian, Amy, and Sarah. Eventually bringing 8 grandchildren, Taelor, Hannah, Jaiden, Hope, Anthony, Jacob, Jaylah, and Jimmy, and 4 great-grandchildren, Emma, Kameron, Carter, and Grayson.
Wayne announced his call to preaching in 1973, becoming an ordained minister in 1975. He performed many marriage ceremonies, sat bedside for comfort, and baptized several loved ones.
While over the road truck driving for 30 years, he was able to witness and lead many other drivers to God, and found his love and way through music. He recorded 35 songs written and sung by him. He sang in a group called Zion Hill in the 1980s and was a choir director at several churches.
From a 1969 Roadrunner to a 1987 Corvette, Wayne spent a lot of his time under the hood of some of his favorite vehicles. As the family mechanic, we always kept him busy.
In 2019, he answered his calling to pastor Wonderland Community Church. Wayne touched many lives. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever. He is blessed with a beautiful Homecoming with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH, 43026 from 5-7PM, we will gather again on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Tidd Family Funeral Home for Anthony's funeral service at 12:00PM.
