Arietta B. Timmons, age 87 of Mt. Sterling passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 in Arbors at London. She was born July 30, 1922 in New Rome, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Morgan) Hollar.

Member of the Mt. Sterling First Church of the Nazarene, Fayette County Senior Center, Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Post #417 Auxiliary of Mt. Sterling, She was an avid gardener, enjoyed her time nourishing flowers and vegetables into thriving plants and fruits. She was an award winning baker/cook; well known for her carrot cakes/home made bread and home-style meals. As an active person she excelled in ladies softball and began bowling as a senior citizen in which she won several awards. She was a loyal member of the school PTO and an active home room mother for her children.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, James I. Timmons (April 20, 2000); infant son James Eugene Timmons; sisters Frances Braithwaite, Charlotte Jacobs; brothers, Charles “Motts” Hollar, Jon Hollar, Keith Hollar, and Harvey Hollar.

She is survived by three sons, Raymond (Kathleen) Timmons of Mt. Sterling, David Timmons of Mt. Sterling, and John Timmons of Rock Hill, SC.; daughter, Regina (James) Moats of Mt. Sterling; two grandsons, Raymond “RJ” Timmons of Sedalia, Joseph (Jennifer) Timmons of Hilliard, and one great grandson, James W. Timmons of Sedalia; sisters, Corrie “Boots” Matthews of Washington C.H., Martha Follrod of Mt. Sterling, Mary (Jack) Brill of Mt. Sterling;

brother, James Hollar of Mt. Sterling; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces & great nephews, sister-in-law, Kay Hollar of Mt. Sterling.

A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating with the burial following in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 3 – 7 p.m.
