Barbara Hackett Emanuel

Barbara Hackett Emanuel, age 86, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, in Columbus Ohio with her daughter Elizabeth by her side.  Barbara was born on October 31, 1937, in Manhattan, New York, to Genevieve and Harold Hackett. Barbara graduated from Miami University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.  In 1977 she earned her counseling certification and was an early pioneer for addiction treatment with the Hazelton organization in Minneapolis, MN.  She later graduated from Dayton University in 1989 with a Master of Science in counseling and education. Barbara lived out her passion as an addiction and family systems counselor for 20 years until she opened her own practice, Emanuel & Associates, as an educator and trainer for the Department of Health and Human Services.  Barbara was married to Karl Emanuel for 45 years.  Barbara was a proud mother, having given birth to three daughters named Elizabeth, Kristin, and Lisa.  Barbara was passionate about women’s rights, having participated in the protest for women’s equal right to credit in the early 1970s in Minneapolis, MN.  In her free time, Barbara enjoyed reading, planting flowers, shopping, and spending time with her family.  For those who knew Barbara, they would say she was vivacious, strong-willed, open-minded, passionate, and creative. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 3pm-5pm at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where a Celebration of Life service will start at 4:30pm. The family is requesting flowers to be sent to Tidd Family Funeral Home, Hilliard, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial continuations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
