Barbara Jean Young

Barbara “Barb” Jean Young, 70, resident of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on November 22, 2024 after a year-long illness with ovarian cancer. Barb was born on May 23, 1954 to Lawrence “Red” and Wilma Stover in Osborne, KS.Barb met the love of her life and beloved husband of 48 years, Mark Young in Wichita, Kansas, and was always wife and mother first, successfully raising two children and being their biggest supporter for all her life. Following graduation from Kansas State, she began a 40 year career in early childhood education, with most of that time spent leading the before and after-school program at Avery Elementary in Hilliard, Ohio where she was adoringly known as Ms. Barb by children for over 25 years. Following retirement in 2019, Barb spent her time visiting grandchildren in North Carolina and Chicago, attending Hilliard Davidson Football Games with their best neighborhood friends, and making weekly visits to Roosters with their lifelong friends Les and Kathy Reel.Barb was preceded into death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband Mark Young, her daughter Katie Young-Estep (Chad), her son Steven Young (Lauren), and five beautiful granddaughters (Elle, Claire, Madeleine, Charlotte, and Grace), her brothers Greg Stover (Randie) and John Stover, as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends for Barb at Tidd Funeral Home 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard. Visitation will be Thursday, December 5 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Mass will be held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church 4475 Dublin Rd. Hilliard, Ohio on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Barb will be laid to rest at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the James Cancer Hospital (Gynocologic Oncology Development Fund) which provided amazing and compassionate care for Barb.
