Betsy Hoover died February 9, 2009, at Riverside Hospital after a brief heart-related illness. Betsy was the widow of Stanley Hoover. From 1954 until their deaths, Betsy and Stanley lived in the same Hilliard home where they started their lives together. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents Edward C. and Lilah (Everett) Johnson, sisters Lois Thrush and Anna Moore, and brothers Edward (Bud) Johnson and David Johnson. Betsy is survived by sons Todd (Linda) Hoover of Livermore, California, and Gary (Joan) Hoover of Aiken, South Carolina. Grandchildren are Jason Hoover (Livermore, California), Nathan (Christina) Hoover (Hinesville, Georgia), Kimberly Hoover (Columbia, South Carolina) and Brent Hoover (Aiken, South Carolina), honorary grandchild Catie D’Angelo (Dublin, Ohio), great-granddaughter Brenna Hoover (Hinesville, Georgia), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.Betsy was born on December 30, 1927, in Prospect, Marion County, Ohio. She was a cheerleader and a 1945 graduate of Prospect High School. On November 23, 1948, she married her friend since elementary school, Stanley B. Hoover. Betsy worked for the A&P, City of Hilliard-Water Department (where she was known for riding her bicycle to work), and she retired from the State of Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. Retirement from the aforementioned jobs did not slow her down. Betsy was a volunteer with several organizations through the years including the Celebration of Japan Festival, Lutheran Social Services, and the Dublin Arts Council. She also served as a Board of Elections poll worker for many years.Betsy enjoyed gardening, reading, the company of various dogs and cats, activities sponsored by the Hilliard Senior Citizens, and Buckeye basketball. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 12 at the Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. Hilliard, OH 43026. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 13, 2009, at the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3500 Main St. Hilliard. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, Ohio. Betsy was a founding member of the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hilliard. Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church’s altar fund.
