Billy Scott (Bill) Truitt, age 86, went home to be with his Lord at his residence on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Born September 14, 1924, Monroe Township, Pickaway County. The son of Ernest and Regina Davis Truitt. Graduate of Monroe Twp. High School, class of 1942.
Served a total of 10 years with the US Naval Reserve. Was on active duty during World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean areas.
He attended The Ohio State University prior to entering the Navy for active duty during World War II. He was a graduate of numerous Agri-Business Schools, in livestock and crop production.
He was employed for 39 ½ years with Opekasit, Inc., South Solon; serving farmers in Madison, Clark, Greene, and Fayette Counties.
He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of South Eastern-Clark Chapter FFA, Madison-Plains Chapter FFA, and the Greenview Chapter FFA. He served as Rural Appraiser for Madison County; and was on the Madison County Commissioners Advisory Board. Past member of Lions Club, Star Grange, Pickaway County, Madison Banner Grange, Madison County, past Pres., PTO, Booster Club, and Music Boosters in the Madison-Plains District. He served 12 years on the South Solon Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the Board of Public Affairs of South Solon for 6 years, past member of Monroe Mens Club of Five Points; member of the American Legion Post #417 of Mt. Sterling, Farm Bureau of Pickaway County, and The United Church, Mt. Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his loving devoted wife of 62 years, Louise Edna (Mercer) Truitt on Aug. 15, 2009; his mother, Regina Davis Truitt; father, Ernest Truitt; uncle Wilford (Jack) Davis; aunt Agnes Davis Markley; cousins, nieces & nephews.
He is survived by daughters Connie (Mike) Surgenor, Belinda (Terry) Vest of Mt. Sterling; granddaughter, Lorna (Barney) Ulrick of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Aaron Jenks of Westerville, Donovan (Jessica) Cooper of London, Devin Cooper of Mt. Sterling; eight great-grandchildren, Jared, Lauren & Evan Ulrick, Alic, Oren & Aaron Jr. Jenks, Dane Cooper and Jaydon Cooper; brother-in-law & sister-in-law James (Donna) Mercer of Washington Court House, cousins, nieces & nephews.
A Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Dortha Ross officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery.
A military service will be performed by the Circleville Amvets Post #2256 at the grave site for the Navy veteran. Family will receive friends on Monday, June 27th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m.
