SGM Bruce Cregor Russell, age 58, of Galloway, lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 28, 2015. He has served our country proudly and honorably from 1975 to present. Graduate of Danville High School in Danville, KY Class of 1975 where he was involved in the ROTC and Vocational programs. During his Army career, Bruce served in the countries Germany, Honduras, Guatemala both active duty and reserve. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-1991 as the ISG of the 758th Maintenance Company for 10 years from 1990-1999. Bruce graduated from the Sergeant Major Academy in June 1996 and was promoted to his current rank as SGM in 1999. In 2004-2006, Bruce served at Ft. Polk, LA during Operation Enduring Freedom. He then served in the War in Afghanistan with the 643rd RSG from 2010-2011. Bruce was awarded two Bronze Star Medals during Desert Storm and Afghanistan. He also received the Samuel Sharpe Medal for Master Gunner of Ordnance and was awarded the Commission of Kentucky Colonel on the 6th of January 2012. Additionally he was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Bruce’s civilian job with the Army was a Senior Executive Supervisor for the 88th Regional Support Command which covered supervision of 11 area maintenance support activities. Preceded in death by father Hoover Russell, children Tara and Brian, niece Amy Dorsett, father and mother-in-law Don and Ruth Crager. He is survived by his devoted, loving, supportive Army wife of almost 25 years Debbie (Crager) Russell, mother Frances Russell, brother Doug (Dawn) Russell, sisters Debbie Trevino, Dianne (Hugh) Dorsett, Carolynne (Harold) Cherry, brothers and sisters- in-law Ken and Cheri Foster, Jeff and Debbie Crager, Keith and Kathy Crager, Tammy and Brad Crager. He is also survived by children Traci (Larry) Paver, Mary Brittany, granddaughter Annabelle Paver. Uncle Bruce will be sadly missed also by his many nieces and nephews Ginger Dorsett, DJ Russell, PFC Drew Russell currently serving in the US Army in Germany, Steven Cherry, Mark and Stephanie Foster, Crystal Foster, Heather and Dustin Richards, Megan Crager, Josh (Erica) Crager, Sean and Alyssa Crager, aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Debbie would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Tarek Chidiac for all of Bruce’s special care and concern. Family will receive friends Sunday 1-3 pm & 5-8 pm at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where funeral service will be held 11 am Monday with US Army Chaplain Charles Flesher officiating, who served with Bruce for many years.
