Carey Dean Brust, age 48, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2009 at his home. He had courageously battled ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease for nearly four years. He was born August 10, 1961 to Earl “Bill” Brust and Darlene (Stage) Brust. Preceded in death by his Mother, May, 1980.
Carey is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Nancy (Redding) Brust; daughters Jordan and Janae and son Jaron, all at home; his father Bill and wife Carol; sister Chonita (Bill) Warner, nephews Nathan and Derek Warner; aunts, uncles, cousins, and the Redding family.
A 1979 graduate of Miami Trace High School and a 1983 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene College with a degree in business. While at Mt. Vernon Nazarene College Carey played on the Cougar baseball team.
Carey was a fulltime employee of Grange Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio for 25 years and was a summer employee during high school. While at Grange Insurance Carey served a term as president of the Credit Union.
He was an active member of the Mt. Sterling First Church of the Nazarene all his life until he was no longer able to participate. A past church board member, co-director of the Caravan program, Caravan guide and played on the church softball team. Many opposing team members will always remember that “arm”. Carey coached his son’s baseball team, Panther basketball for both Jaron and Janae. He participated in the Relay For Life and was an advisor for the YSS Farmers 4-H club of Fayette County.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene 226 N. Market Street, Mt. Sterling, Ohio 43143. Rev. Ron Reynolds and Rev. Dortha Ross officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. A visitation with Nancy, the children and family will also be held at the church on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 2 – 8 p.m.
