Cash Duane Russell, born August 1, 1930, in Ottawa, Ill., passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, after a life exceptionally well lived. A graduate of the Newcomerstown High School Class of 1948, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Ohio University in 1952. He was president of the Acacia Fraternity in 1951. A faithful longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, he served as the congregational president, and chaired the Board of Stewardship, Board of Elders, Special Gifts Committee and Building Committee. He served his community on the Board of Directors of Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio and the South-Western City Schools Business and Industry Council. He devoted his entire career, 1952-1989, to the General Motors Columbus Plant, where he retired as plant engineer. He was a member of the Plant Engineers’ Council of the Industrial Association of Central Ohio and president of the Central Ohio General Motors Salaried Retiree Group. His parents, Cash and Louise Russell, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret (Phillippi); children Daniel (Denise), Christine (Monte) Stevens, Brenda (Dan) Trittschuh; grandchildren Abigail and Noelle Russell, Nathaniel and Adam Stevens; sisters Ann Shirk and Sally (Bob) Maddox, and brother Don (Glada) Russell. Family will receive friends Friday, 4-8 p.m., at St. James Lutheran Church, 5660 Trabue Road, Columbus 43228, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor John Hood officiating. Interment at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery. Flowers will be received at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
