Charles Owen Ashley, 92, of Hilliard, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. He passed peacefully in the company of his wife of 68 years, Charlotte (Croye) and their beloved daughters, Cindy and Cathy, and their families.
Charles was a peaceful, humble and dryly funny man who loved his Savior, his family and his country. A native and proud West Virginian, Charles was born October 7, 1931 in Dawes to Alonzo and Ruby (Murdock). Charles is the descendant of Captain John N. Young, a founder and original trustee of Charleston.
A 1949 graduate of East Bank High School, Charles served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 before marrying Charlotte in 1955. His meticulous disposition and “love of figures” served him well in a 30-year career as a payroll administrator for Columbia Gas. After retiring in 1989, Charles enjoyed winter trips to Florida, spending time with his family, and watching his Mountaineers play football.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jerry (Bill Seabolt) and his brother Ed (Shirley). He is celebrated by his loving wife Charlotte, his daughters Cindy (Vic) Fisher of Marysville, Cathy (Jim) King of Hilliard; grandchildren Jason (Joann) King, Jennifer King, Victor (Jenni) Fisher, Sarah (Clayton) Conklin; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Savannah, Sierra and Irene.
Special thanks to the staff of Vitas Healthcare and their nurses, who provided exceptional care in Charles’ final days.
There will be a private family graveside service at Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Brian Petitt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Community Connection, 655 Metro Place South, Suite 770, Dublin, Ohio 43017 or online at vitascommunityconnection.org.
