Charles Hennick Herbert, age 87, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home March 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne, his parents Harold and Catherine, his twin brother William and sister Elsie. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family which includes his children Judy, Susan (Phil), Brian (Kathy) and his grandchildren: Gayle, Kelly, Christina (Jon), Charles (Tiffany), and Lani; his great-grandchildren: Jordin, Jackie, Jacob, Xander, Dustin, Haylee, Taylor, Wesley, Kaden and Damien, and great-great grandchildren: Jaxin and Jaylyne. Born and raised in Columbus, Charlie graduated from Central High School in 1948. In 1949, at the young age of 20 he married Yvonne Wolfe. They remained happily married until her passing in 2009, for a total of 60 years. At the young age of 12 Charlie went to work for Bowman Dairy until that was put on hold for the war. Charlie and his twin brother (Bill) joined the US Army. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1952. In 1954 Charlie and Yvonne moved to Hilliard where they had 3 children. In 1972 he suffered a terrible accident while on the job that left him unable to work. From that point on he became the stay at home Dad and Grandpa that we all loved and knew so well. Before his death, his masonic brothers at Avery Lodge #493 F. & A.M. recognized Charles for his 65+ years of masonry. Charlie had great stories about what it was like growing up in a much different time. Him and Yvonne loved traveling to visit casinos and playing nickel slots. He was known for his bright smile and funny jokes. Charlie will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him. His family would like to thank the Mount Carmel Hospice nursing staff and ask in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Mount Carmel Foundation Hospice and Palliative Care at www.mountcarmelhealth.com/hospice. In adherence to Charlie’s wishes there will be no services. His family will plan a small remembrance dinner at a date to be determined.
