Charles H. Hinzey, age 93, a long-time resident of Grove City and Hilliard, Ohio, danced his last polka and passed peacefully in Charlottesville, Virginia on Sunday, September 11, 2016 after a long illness. Born in New Pittsburg, Ohio to the late Lena and Hiram Hinzey, he was a graduate of Dillonvale High School and a proud veteran of the United States Navy during WWII. Chuck worked as a Relay Technician for Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company for 32 years before his retirement in 1978. He was a former member of Grove City Presbyterian Church where he served on the Session at various times and was also very active in the Boy Scouts there. He later attended Hilliard Presbyterian Church. Chuck was very active in his community. He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows-Hilliard; Avery Lodge #493 F&AM, a32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Columbus and Aladdin Temple Shrine; he was a life-time member of Benson W. Hough VFW Post #3424, life-member of AmVets Post #89, life-member of Don Gentile Post #532, American Legion, was a life-member of Buckeye Lake Aerie 2801, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Hilliard Moose Lodge 2236, Loyal Order of Moose. Chuck loved to dance and he and his late wife Mae attended ballroom dances six times per week for 24 years! He was also active in many senior citizen’s groups throughout Central Ohio. Chuck and Mae were very interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching and traveling to cemeteries and courthouses to learn about their ancestors. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wives Alyce (Przebeszvski) Hinzey who passed in 1984 and Mae (Riebel) Hinzey who passed in 2010, his brothers Henry “Hank” Hinzey and William Hinzey, and his son Charles R. Hinzey. He is survived by his daughter Alicia (Paul) Blocksom of Ruckersville, VA and their faithful companions Mama and Calicat; daughter-in-law Wendy (Craig) Cochran of Loudon, TN; grandchildren: Angela Lynn (Michael Blow) Hinzey of Washington, DC and John Hinzey of Gate City, VA; brother Ralph Hinzey of Columbus, OH; nephew Henry “Sonny” (Sharon) Hinzey of Galloway, OH and their family; niece Rosemary (Tom) Kyanko of Wellsburg, WV and their family including Chuck’s special nephew Mark (Mari) Kyanko of Wellsburg, WV; family friends: Deb and Rae Wellmes of Columbus, OH and Ginny Cimin of Grove City; good Hilliard friends: John and Patsy Hart, John and Marcia Haney, Chris and Sarah Chenko and their family, Joe and Theresa Berger and Susan Gibas; and his “Virginia Girls.” Many thanks to Chuck’s fine physicians and dedicated nurses.
