Charles W. Smith

Charles W. Smith, age 73, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday April 5, 2015 after battling lung cancer. He was born August 3, 1941 to Effie (Baker) Smith Ecklar and Challis W. Smith in Harlan Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ecklar stepfather and Barbara (Hillier) Smith ex-wife. Survived by his loving wife of 39 years Jan Marie (Borchardt Black), their children Pamela (Lane) Partridge of Waban Massachusetts, Robert (Tuesday) Black of Annapolis Maryland and Matthew (Stephanie) Smith of Londonderry Ohio, his grandchildren who never failed to make him smile Lexi Smith, Sydney Smith, Bree Maniscalco and Brooke Marie Black, Lynda (Wittkugle) Johnston Smith ex-wife, Roy Smith brother of Circleville Ohio, Beverly (Davis) Marksbury sister of Lexington Kentucky and Bridgett Messer sister of Berry Kentucky, many other relatives and friends who knew him as Chuck or C.W. and his faithful cates Chloe, Blackie and Bella. Family will receive friends 2-4 pm Sunday, May 3, 2014 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where a celebration of life service will follow at 4 pm. The family would like to thank Dr. J. Hofmeister, Columbus Oncology & Hematology staff and OhioHealth Hospice staff for their help and support in making Chuck’s wish to remain home in his “man cave” possible. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, OhioHealth Foundation-designate hospice or the charity of choice.
