Charlotte Woods Crisp slipped away April 19, 2023, with her daughters Cassandra Maull and Joni Hoffman, son-in-law Joe Hoffman and granddaughter Amy Cunningham at her side.
Her other beloved grandchildren Peter Cunningham, Jessica Nicholas, husband Dan and daughter Delilah, and niece Charlotte Walters spoke with her and grandson David (Jessica Walker) Maull was with her in spirit. Her soulmate and husband of nearly 71 years, John L. Crisp who preceded her, was waiting to greet her with open arms.
Born in Iowa in 1923, Charlotte moved to Champaign/Urbana Illinois following high school, working as a legal secretary. She met John at a dance class, and they didn’t stop dancing for 60 years. Family was first and foremost for Charlotte, a wonderful, involved mother – leading Brownie troops, serving as “Room Mother” in her daughters’ schools, and doing other volunteer work. She loved to learn, getting a realtor license and becoming a medical transcriptionist along the way and bridge was her game of choice.
She was an avid reader (mysteries!); loved lemon meringue pie, so long as it was made with real lemon; collected dozens of nutcrackers; and was fascinated hearing and watching birds. Charlotte and John lived in the Midwest, on the West Coast, and in Texas, before returning to Ohio in their later years.
She lived life with love and gratitude.
