Cheryl L. Mountain

October 14, 1950 — June 6, 2015

Cheryl (Cheri) Mountain was born in Sioux City, Iowa as Pamela Sue Smiley on October 14, 1950. Her birth mother was unable to keep her and she was adopted through Lutheran Social Services. Eight weeks later, she was adopted by Dr. Gerald and Marguerite Smith. She lived in Cedar Falls and Waterloo, Iowa, where she met and married her loving husband of 44 years, Rodney Mountain, on October 21, 1971. They had two children, Michelle (Rick) Basham and Gerald (Misty) Mountain. Cheryl is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Miquela Basham, Shane and Finleigh Mountain; two brothers, Doug (Julie) Smith, Cedar Rapids, IA and Chris (Jane) Smith, Evansdale, IA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She started out in the medical field, as an X-Ray Technician, but when the children came along, she was happy to be a full time mom. Cheryl always enjoyed being around kids, no matter what age. She was an avid supporter, fundraiser, and active member of the Hilliard Music Boosters from 1989-1995. Cheryl ended her working career by working for her college kids, in the parent association office at The Ohio State University. She enjoyed meeting people, and could talk your arms and legs off, if given the chance. She was an avid Ohio State fan, and a NASCAR junkie (Jimmy Johnson #48). Cheryl also loved boating, camping, and night time campfires, where she could relax with family and share memories with those she loved. She loved life, and spent as much time as she was able to around her grandkids, whom she adored. Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Gerald Shane Smith. Family will greet friends from 12pm-2pm, on Saturday, June 20, 2015, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at the First Alliance Christian Church, 3750 W. Henderson Rd, Columbus, OH 43220.
