Clare Goulet

d. March 11, 2019

Clare Goulet, 85, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Clare was born on December 15, 1933 in Neunhain, Germany to Wilhelm and Klara Preis. She was the sixth of ten children and spent the majority of her childhood in Eastern France, while her father stayed in Germany during WW II to fight against the SS.

Clare returned to Germany in 1949 and worked for the West German government.  She liked to tell her kids and grandkids, with her trademark cackle and wink, that she had been a “German spy” during that time.

Clare met Robert Baas, an American stationed in Germany, married him and moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1952. The two had five children, Sandra, Barbara, Linda, Robert and David, before they divorced.

Clare met the love of her life, Richard Goulet, in 1968. The couple married in 1969 moved to Cincinnati and had one child, Doriayn.   After 2 years in Cincinnati they returned to Columbus.

Proud of her German heritage, Clare loved to share tales of her childhood. She was quick to laugh, loved to dance and was always up for an adventure. Clare especially enjoyed spending time outdoors, walking, hiking or gardening.

One of Clare’s favorite hobbies was crocheting and making gifts for her family and friends.  Clare was never happier than when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored their “Omie” as much as she loved them.

Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Goulet; her parents, and her nine siblings.

Clare is survived by her 6 children: Sandra (Mark) Bentley, Barbara Baas, Linda Baas, Robert (Gretchen) Baas, David (Carrie) Baas, and Dori Goulet (Jerry Kurtz); her 12 grandchildren: Tammy (Paul) Groves, Jennifer (Max) Kittredge, Phillip (Missy) Walker, Brittany Walker, Shelly Howell, Allison Howell, Erin Baas, Emily Baas, Ryan Baas, Lilah Repuyan, Enzo Repuyan, and Abby Baas; and her 6 great-grandchildren: Madison Groves, Christian Groves, Hope Groves, Amelia Walker, Cassidy Chenault, Kaitlyn Chenault, Elle Kittredge, and Malachi Santos.

Clare was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and the Clintonville Woman’s Club for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, Ohio.
