David Keith “Gus” Gustafson, 81, most recently of Hilliard, OH died at his home Friday, April 26, 2019, from complications of kidney disease. David was born August 10, 1937 in Boulder, CO to the late Adolph Louis and Florence Annette Howard Gustafson and grew up in Wheat Ridge, CO.
He was a Certified Photogrammetrist and member of the American Society of Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing; he had over 50 years experience with both private firms and with the U.S. Geological Survey; the U.S. Department of Roads, and Franklin County, Ohio Auditor’s Office GIS. He was instrumental in establishing and organizing computer graphics systems for two private firms and wrote numerous computer programs for mapping and engineering. He was a life member of the Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and enjoyed photographing gravestones for other genealogists. His family was the most important thing in his life, and he was very proud to have had a nephew who gave his life in the service of his country in Afghanistan. He also enjoyed making others laugh. David earned a B. S. in Economics from Michigan State University while residing in Lansing, MI; he also lived in Arlington, Virginia for a short time, but called Ohio home.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Leona Louise Wichmann Gustafson. They were blessed with 3 children, Jeffry Alan Gustafson (Wendy), Oak Creek, CO; Denise Kathleen Gustafson Hull, Aurora, CO; Diana Lynn Gustafson Fields, Hilliard, OH; also 6 grandchildren Lauren Nicole Gustafson Dixon (Bryan) of Pasadena, TX; Sarah Elizabeth Gustafson Thompson (Matt) of Spring, TX; Levi Jacob Morris of Las Vegas, NV; Amanda Jean Morris of Colorado Springs, CO; Jeremy Matthew Meadows and Christopher Dean Gustafson of Hilliard, OH and 6 great-grandchildren: Lanie Lea Belk; Taya, Caleb and Trace Dixon; Zachery, Michael and Christopher Thompson. Also survived by brothers Charles R. (Jacque) of Fort Collins, CO and John H. (Naomi) Gustafson of Irvine, CA; brothers-in-law Robert E. (Lenora) and David A. (Dianne) Wichmann, all of CO; several nieces, nephews and cousins. As per David's wishes there will be no viewing or services in Ohio. A celebration of his life will be held in Colorado at a later date. Memorial donations in David's name can be made to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to give many thanks to the staff of Kindred Care Hospice with very special thanks to Ashley, Lisa, and Jennifer.
