David S. Meeks

d. November 16, 2017

David S. Meeks, age 53, formerly of Dublin, OH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 16, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ. David was born April 10, 1964 in Canton, OH, beloved son to John N. and Joan D. Meeks. A 1982 graduate of GlenOak High School, David went on to study Political Science and graduated from Ohio University in 1987. He had a knack for politics and was an excellent problem solver when it came to governmental issues. He enjoyed a lifelong career in the public sector, most recently serving as Hilliard’s Economic Development Director for more than 14 years. David will be remembered as the person who redeveloped the city’s image to be progressive, dynamic and positioned for economic growth. In August 2014, the state of Ohio honored him with the street, “David Meeks Way,” in Hilliard. David was described as one with “unwavering dedication to excellence with an exceptional record of personal and professional success, inspiring countless individuals to excel in numerous areas of endeavor.” During the dedication, David was saluted as “one of Ohio’s finest citizens.” David was appointed to the Ohio Association of Commodores by Governor Kasich, served on the Ohio Council for Economic Education and was named newsmaker of the year by Columbus Business First magazine in 2004. David was deeply thankful for his Catholic Faith and enjoyed his involvement with The Knights of Columbus and The Boy Scouts of America. A fellow Scout Master described him as a rock in the troop, a favorite among the boys, yet he could also be the dad to sneak out of camp to the nearest Dairy Queen. David was exceptionally kind, and brought humor and joy to all who knew him. He saw the bright side to everything. He loved gourmet cooking, flying his drones and rockets. Most of all he was a devoted husband and father. David will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Molly (Drake) Meeks and his sons Thomas (18), and Patrick (16). David will be forever remembered by his parents John N and Joan D Meeks, of Canton, OH, mother-in-law Ann Drake of Hilliard, OH, twin brother Paul (Mary) Meeks of Canton, OH, brother John (Corie) Meeks of Myrtle Beach, SC, sister Sandra (Bob) Ondecker of Green, OH, sisters-in-law Maureen(Scott) Heritage of Scottsdale, AZ, Mandy Drake of Libertyville, IL, and Missy(Paul) Kelsey of Loveland, OH. David will be lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Dr. G. Thomas Drake III. The family will receive friends at 9:30 am prior to a 10:30 am mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 28th at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, OH 43026. A luncheon in celebration of David's life will immediately follow in the cafeteria. A private inurnment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery on Wednesday, November 29th.
