Donald L. Alt, age 83, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 05, 2014. Don was born in Celina, Ohio on November 22, 1931. Preceded in death by parents Orville (Bob) and Arbutus (Roser), also by his first wife Wanda (Dull) and son Michael. Don is survived by his loving wife Pat of 36 years, daughters Kay (Scott) McKnight of Rockwall, TX and Sheree (Jim) Ziemba of Plain City, OH, brother Dale (Patty) of Alexandria, IN, sister Bernice of Coldwater, OH, aunt Norma Alt of Richburg, SC, step-daughters Christine Abrahamson of Columbus, OH and Cindy (John) Rucker, step grandson Kyle of Dublin, OH, grandchildren Jason Melchiorre, Rachael Lassiter, Megan Barrett, Matthew and Michael McKnight, 6 great grandchildren. Don graduated from Celina High School in 1949 and Denison University in 1953 where he is in the Athletic Hall of Fame at both schools. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Blue Key Club. At Denison he was a four-year letter winner in both baseball and football and a conference first team defensive-end and received the team’s most valuable lineman and most valuable player awards in his senior season. He was drafted into the Army in 1953; where he served in Korea from 1954to 1955 (15 months). Don was a resident of Hilliard, Ohio for 20 years; where all three children attended Hilliard Schools and the family attended the Lutheran Church in Hilliard. Don has been active in racquetball and was named to the Ohio Racquetball Hall of Fame and the Masters International Racquetball Hall of Fame. Don retired from Nationwide Insurance Company in 1987 after 30-plus years. In 1965 he served as the President of Columbus Mortgage Bankers and he served a term on the Board of Directors of Nationwide Federal Credit Union. Don is also a 50 year member of University Lodge No. 631 of F.&A.M. of Ohio and a member of the Dublin Recreation Center. He was formerly employed by Premier at Sawmill as a racquetball instructor and racquet stringer. Family will receive friends 5-8 pm Tuesday at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026.
