Donald Smith

Donald Lee Smith, age 82, of Columbus, passed away December 07, 2015 the Laurels of Worthington. Survived by daughter Debbie Mallett and son Dean Smith. He was born on July 30, 1933 in Columbus, OH to Jay and Gertrude (Herron) Smith. Don grew up in Columbus, OH. He graduated from Columbus’ West High School in 1951. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 and served for 3 years during the Korean conflict and was discharged from active duty in 1955 receiving an honorable discharge after his 8-year obligation in 1960. After his military service he worked as an electrician at Custom Coach Corporation where he retired after 30+ years. Don married Diane (Finney) in 1960 in Columbus, OH. They were married for 50 years preceding to Diane’s passing in 2010. In honoring Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. As a memorial, his family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
