Doris Jean "D.J." Parlette

d. June 29, 2016

Doris Jean (“DJ”) Parlette. Born 4 July 1931. In the twinkling of an eye, as Paul promises (I Corinthians 15:40-57), DJ gave up her earthly body and received her heavenly body, 29 June 2016. She never fully recovered from her fall in June 2015 and experienced much difficulty with her health in the past year. She was raised by her mother Garnet Williams along with her late brothers Tom (Betty) and Bill (Terry) Williams and sister Virginia (Richard) Hopkins in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1949. In the early 1950s DJ moved to Columbus and worked at the City National Bank and Trust (now Chase). On a beautiful Spring day in May 1959, I was playing tennis with a friend at the OSU tennis courts next to Ohio stadium. At that time the OSU varsity baseball field was located were Lincoln Tower is now sited. After finishing tennis , we could see the baseball game in progress and decided to watch the rest of the game. As we walked by the bleachers, my friend saw three girls sitting there that he knew. I was introduced and one of them was DJ Williams. After the game and pizza, we took the girls home, and in my still sweaty tennis clothes I asked DJ for her telephone number. We were married in November 1959 and with the addition of our daughter Jenny in 1963, our family has been blessed. DJ is survived by me, her husband Denis, daughter Jenny Saylor, son-in-law Dan Saylor, grandsons Scott and Nick Saylor; and sister Virginia Hopkins. In lieu of a traditional funeral, we plan to have a joyous luncheon celebration of DJ’s life. Thank you Kobacker House for your kind care and Marilyn for your loving support. Cremation by Tidd Funeral Home, Hilliard. May all of DJ’s hands be three no trump. Goodbye for now sweetheart, until we meet again.
