Dorothy “Buttons” Hayes. It is with great sadness that the family of Buttons, age 66, announces that she went to be with her Lord after a brief and unexpected illness on December 24, 2022.
Buttons will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Roger and children, Rebecca (Keith) Stewart, Rachel (Mike) Gersper, Dustin (Amanda) Hayes and her stepson Brad Hayes. Her absence will be deeply felt by her grandchildren, Alexis, Morgan, Taylor, Peyton, Mira, Nova, and Jayna. She is also survived by her siblings Lorraine Wingo, Jo Ann Costell, Robert Costell, Joseph T Costell, Jon Costell, Jackie Miller and Paul Costell, her stepmom Rachel Hayes, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born in Kansas, the child of Joseph Costell, US Air Force and Dorothy Post both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from West Jefferson High School and spent all her adult life in the Columbus, Ohio area.
During her working years she spent half of her career working for Ohio Health and then finished her career at Farmers Insurance. She was amazing with people and had many friends and business acquaintances. She was best known for her amazing cooking skills and natural talent as an artist. She was the tie that bound her family together and she will be missed in so many ways it is impossible to list them all.
From the moment her first grandchild was born she was an amazing center of strength and support in her family. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer when the first grandchild was on the way. She bravely battled breast cancer and won! This fight did not come without costs, but her strength and bravery continued, and she helped to raise every one of the grandchildren with tough love and high expectations. She taught them to love, fight and overcome adversity. She was the best grandma ever! She will leave a hole in the lives of not just her family but also many friends as well. We take comfort in knowing that she is celebrating in Heaven and we will all join with her again one day in the future.
