Dorothy E. Lease

Dorothy Eileen Lease of Hilliard, OH passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, September 29, 2017. Dorothy was born May 16, 1930 in Zanesfield, OH to the late John and Naomi (Grimes) Morgan. Dorothy was one of 9 children.  She leaves behind two grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Matthew W. Lease of Seattle, WA and Katie L. Lease of Hilliard, as well as her loving daughter in law Judy K. (Wood) Lease of Hilliard. She was also loved by her remaining siblings including: Richard (Zaida) Morgan of Urbana, OH, Jim (Barbara) Morgan of Wapakoneta, OH; Mary Ann Downing of Bellefontaine, OH and Danny Morgan of Bellefontaine. She left behind many nieces and nephews who adored her as well.  Dorothy graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1948 and began working for Westinghouse in Bellefontaine shortly thereafter.  She married Harry W. Lease on June 26, 1954. They were married until Harry passed away in January, 2015.  They were blessed with a son, Kim L. Lease who sadly passed away in June, 2011.  Dorothy was a devoted and faithful servant of the Hilliard Church of Christ. She also volunteered for Thursday's Child, a preschool held at the Church.  In addition, she volunteered for the Hilliard Historical Society in her later years.  She worked as the Civil Service Secretary for the City of Hilliard for over 30 years and held various secretarial positions over the years as well as working at Wilbarger Pharmacy in Hilliard.  Later in life she began staying at home and taking care of her grandchildren which, she always said was her favorite job!  She was loved by many friends and family and was known for her "open door policy"!  Everyone was always welcome and she usually had her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting.  4th of July, Halloween and Christmas were her favorite holidays.  Her annual 4th of July breakfast before the Hilliard parade was one of the highlights of her year-not only for her but her neighbors, as well.  Trick-or- treaters for two generations were treated every year by her homemade popcorn balls. At Christmas, her home always looked like a winter wonderland, where once you walked in, you never wanted to leave!   She delighted in having neighbors, friends and family stop by at any time!  Dorothy was well known in the Hilliard community and had many nicknames, such as; Dot, Dottie, Moose, and Grandma.  Grandma was by far her favorite! Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Harry W. Lease, her loving son, Kim L. Lease, her parents John and Naomi Morgan, siblings; Carl (Betty) Smith, Maxine (Richard) Newland, Marjorie Bryson, John (Marilyn) Morgan, brother in law, Brian Downing. Dorothy was truly a precious lady and will be missed by all who crossed her path!  A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2017 at HILLIARD CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4300 Avery Road, Hilliard, OH 43026 where family will welcome friends before the service from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Danny Vanscoy will officiate.
