Dorothy M. Mettes, 79, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Mill Run Garden and Care Center in Hilliard, OH. Dorothy was born on December 21, 1933 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Milo and Frances (Weber) Hill. Dorothy grew up in Michigan, moving with her family from Bay City to Marlette, MI about 1942. After graduating from high school in Marlette, Dorothy attended Stephen’s College in Columbia, Missouri where she met her husband. After they were married in 1954, they lived in Missouri and Michigan. In 1963, Dorothy and her husband moved to Newark, Ohio, where they raised their three daughters. Dorothy was an avid reader, but her real passion was for art. Although Dorothy had not had any formal training, she loved art and had a natural talent for drawing. She primarily drew charcoal sketches until about 1973, when she took her first formal art class and learned to paint pictures. Dorothy produced small paintings, including a painting of her parents’ cottage in Indian River, Michigan where her three daughters spent each summer.
After developing Multiple Sclerosis, Dorothy moved to San Diego, CA for about years for health reasons. She then moved to Florida to live with her parents. After her father’s death, Dorothy and her mother moved to Ohio in 1991 to be close to family. Dorothy had been a resident of Mill Run Garden and Care Center in Hilliard, OH since 2001.Dorothy is survived by her three daughters; Sherrie (Kenneth) Bradley, Christi (Brian) Williams, and Lisa (Todd) Lower, as well as eight grandchildren; Jennifer (Michael) Lloyd, Ted Shields, Andrew Hinkle, Jessica (Sean) Tatro, Kay (Ephram) Wilkoff, Tyler Williams, Jordan Bradley, and Jackson Bradley; and two great-grandsons, Logan and Alex Tatro. Also surviving her are an aunt, two uncles, and numerous distant cousins. Arrangements are being handled by the Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard, OH. Per her request, no visitation is planned
