Duane Umphress

Duane E. Umphress, age 60, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Oh. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Duane was born at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Oh. August 15, 1948 and raised in Ada, Oh. He graduated from Ada High School, Class of 1967. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. His military service remained an important aspect during the remainder of his life. He worked for the automobile industry for most of his life. He loved fixing things, remodeling and enjoyed detailing cars in his spare time. He was an avid Buckeye fan and liked golfing. He is preceded in death by his father Charles S. Umphress and brother-in-law Dennis "Denny" Midlam. He is survived by his mother, Hazel C. Umphress; son, Duane E. (Georgia Ann) Umphress II; grandchildren, Autum T. and Bailey R. Umphress; sisters, Viki Midlam and Cheryl (Howard) Ward. He had beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is dearly loved and will be missed. Famly will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, Oh. Funeral service Saturday 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Bernardo officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors.
