Dwight A. Smith

Dwight Alan “Al” Smith, August 17, 1953 - April 29, 2015, Survived by wife, Katherine Norden-Smith, of Darnestown, Maryland (formerly of Hilliard, OH.) and sister, Susan Smith Shockey of Annandale, Virginia (formerly of New Albany, OH). Dwight was born in Van Wert, Ohio to Rae and Dwight E. Smith. He held a B.S. degree from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service and a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from The Ohio State University. Dwight was a U.S. Diplomat for 30 years serving as an Agricultural Economist and Program Development Officer with USAID. A specialist in African affairs, he spent over 20 years posted overseas including assignments in Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Malawi and Kenya. Visitation will be Thursday, May 7 from 6-8pm at Tidd Funeral Home located at 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, OH and at the church one hour prior to the mass Friday morning. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday, May 8 at St. Simon & Jude Church, 9350 High Free Pike, West Jefferson, Ohio. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cols., OH. Memorial contributions may be made in Al’s name to Heifer International’s East Africa Dairy Project. (www.heifer.org).
