Earl Francis Peitz Jr., former longtime resident of Upper Arlington, passed away on 6/28/16 at Mayfair Village Nursing Care Center. Earl was born in 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio to Augustine and Earl Sr. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1951 with a degree in political science. Earl loved his OSU experience, including his time in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. After college, Earl began his career at what was then the Ohio Farm Bureau. He stuck with this company his entire work life and spent several years in Memphis, Tennessee before returning to Columbus. Earl retired after 42 years as a senior vice president at what had by then become Nationwide Insurance. Earl married his first love, Evelyn McKean in 1951. They had many happy years together raising their boys. They often enjoyed boating, camping and scuba diving on family trips. Earl showed his mettle by caring for Evelyn during her final years when she was beset by many health challenges. Evelyn passed away in 1996. Earl married Trisha Moore in 2000 and they settled first in Fort Lauderdale and later in Naples, Florida. Earl and Trisha indulged a passion for travel, seeing much of the world together. Earl felt especially fortunate to have taken a trip to Germany where he traced his family’s genealogy. After Trisha passed away in 2012 he returned to Columbus to be near his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Gregory (Jann) and Jeffrey and grandchildren, Megan, Tory, Jamie, and Mia. Earl was an avid Buckeye fan and supporter who could often be heard spurring on the DE-FENSE from his seats in “C” Deck. A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held at the Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, Ohio on Wednesday 7/6/16 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. To honor Earl's love of the Buckeyes, family requests those who attend wear their favorite Scarlet and Gray attire.
