Edward Shook, Jr., known to immediate family and friends as Stub, 79, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio was called by God to the eternal farm in Heaven on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014 at 1:10 a.m. at Arbors West Nursing Facility in West Jefferson, Ohio with his daughter Lori and son-in-law Kevin Bowsher by his side along with nursing staff and aids.
He was born November 24, 1934 and raised in Lockbourne, Ohio to Edward Shook and Myrtle (Sowers) Shook. He joins his parents, brother Frank and sisters Helen and Marie, grandson, Robert Clifford, son-in-law Jim Willoughby, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) Shook and special friend Leslie (Peachie) Bowsher.
Ed married the love of his life, Ruth (Scarberry) Shook on January 2, 1955 whom departed from this life on May 20, 2009. Ed and his family lived in Madison County Mt. Sterling area over 50 years of farming on the Lower Glenn Farm, Versa Corporation and managing Plumwood Estates. Ed was a life time member of Lutheran Church in Lockbourne, Ohio and before his illness he attended the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Mt. Sterling. His daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kevin Bowsher were his primary care givers and he was grateful for their love and dedication to him.
He will be greatly missed by his youngest daughter and best friend, Lori and Kevin Bowsher of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; daughters Karen Shook (Loren Smith) of Hillsboro, Ohio and Teresa (Willoughby) (Gary) Dearth of Florida; brothers Floyd Shook of Heath, Ohio and Daniel (Chris) Shook of Mt. Sterling and sisters Elsie Sheets of Marysville, Ohio and Betty Beal of Arizona. Special nephew Berndie (Jenny) Shook of Obetz, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Ed had a four generation family, which he will be sadly missed by his grand-daughters, Kelly (Willoughby) (Bill) Groves of Washington C.H., Ohio, Angelia Willoughby (Brad Walters) of Frankfort, Ohio and Samantha Dearth of Florida; grandsons, Bobby Clifford and Adam Dearth of Florida and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ed and family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Arbors West Nursing Facility of West Jefferson, Ohio (Amy Lewis, Tom Clark, Shameeka Robinson and aids Kate, Page, Marie, Natalie, Randy, Angel and Ethel) and Loving Care Hospice of London, Ohio (Mary Ann Ryan, Lynn Daily, Kelli Hughes and the hospice team).
Pall-bearers will be: Brad Walters, Berndie Shook, Bob Shook, Tom Shook, Gary Gains and Loren Smith.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. Main St., Mt. Sterling, Ohio. Rev. Dortha Ross and Hospice Chaplain Greg Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery.
