Eleanor Sophie (Dvornicky) Basta, 86, formerly of Plainsville, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on October 31, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Ohio Health Kobacker Hospice, Columbus, Ohio. She died of a broken heart after her husband of 64 years recently passed away on Aug 10.

She was born on December 5, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, daughter of the late Elizabeth (Kaluzny) and William Dvornicky formerly of Plainsville, PA. She was a graduate of Plains High School.

She was employed in the garment industry at Square Apparel and later a full-time housewife and mother of two sons. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston, PA, and of St. Brendan the Navigator, Hilliard, OH. Eleanor and her late husband Nicholas have resided with their son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Susan in Columbus, OH, since 2004.

She loved her family, friends and the countless people she befriended over her 86 years. She had a very strong religious faith and loved the Holy Trinity and the Roman Catholic Church. She loved baking and gave away thousands of cookies and other baked goods to friends and especially to neighborhood children.

Surviving are her son, Nick and daughter-in-law, Susan, Columbus, OH; her son Edward and partner, Karen Andrasi, Havertown, PA; sisters, Elizabeth Obritski, Parkville, MD and Helen Hasay, Towson, MD; brother William, Westminster, MD; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 9571 N High St, Lewis Center, OH at 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 4 immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family thanks the staff and physicians of The Ohio State University Medical Center, the staff of Altercare of Hilliard, the staff of the Kobacker Hospice, and spiritual support of Monsignor John Johnson and Fr. Dean Mathewson for their devoted and excellent care of Eleanor.
