Elizabeth "Betty" Grunenwald

d. January 22, 2017

Elizabeth Marie Grunenwald, 85, of Hilliard, Ohio, completed her journey in this world, and passed on to the next on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Born April 10, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, “Betty” as she preferred to be called was daughter of the late Otto and Loretta Werwie. She is preceded by her late husband of 53 years, William “Bill” Grunenwald, daughter Laurie Ann and son Michael Joseph, and brothers Raymond Werwie, Jacob Werwie, and Will Werwie. She is survived by son Richard (Kathy), daughter Beth Ann Legech, daughter Carol (Robert) Lynch, daughter Joanne (Michael) Trueman, son Robert, son Jim (Julie). Also surviving are brothers Joseph Werwie and Bernard Werwie, and sisters Norma Berringer and Virginia Kinney, and grandchildren Amanda, Andrew Madeline, Olivia, Austin, Jacob, Michael (Lynch), Hunter, Hayley, Joseph, Nicholas, Victoria, and Michael (Grunenwald). Betty was a devoted wife and mother, always kind and generous, and put the concerns and needs of her family and friends first. She shaped a family of eight sometimes unruly children into adults, and set an example for all to aspire to. After many years managing the home, Betty worked in the Parish Office at St. Brendan’s Church, and was often the first person to welcome new families into the parish. She retired in 2004 and spent the next years with Bill traveling throughout Ohio and visiting friends and family. Betty was loved by all and received support and love from many during her experience with Alzheimer’s during the past eight years. The family would like to thank all who accompanied her on this journey, especially Bernadine Bredolo, Lorie Gardner, the staff at Darby Glenn Nursing and Rehabilitation and Bella Care Hospice who showed exceptional care and thoughtfulness during the last few months. Family will receive friends on FRIDAY from 2:00-4:00p.m. & 6:00-8:00p.m at TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 with a Prayer Vigil at 8:00p.m. There will be brief visitation at 9:30 am on SATURDAY, JANUARY 28, 2017 at ST. BRENDAN THE NAVIGATOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, OH 43026 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00a.m. with Father Thomas Gardner, Celebrant and Deacon Chris Campbell, Homilist.
