Elmer Tussing, age 93, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on December 29, 2020 at Brookdale-Muirfield Care Center. He was born on November 27, 1927 in Basil, Ohio to the late Wilson Tussing and Mabel (Pheister) Tussing. Elmer graduated from Liberty Union High School and was a World War II Navy veteran. Elmer served as Quartermaster on the USS Artemis. He was present in the Bikini Atoll during the nuclear testing from which he, and many others, were diagnosed with a common cancer. These men were classified as “Atomic Veterans.” Along with his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bertie Louise (Bukey) Tussing, who passed in 2019, his brothers Roy, Richard and Howard Tussing and his sisters Mary (Tussing) Boso and Helen (Tussing) Creed. Elmer is survived by his loving daughters Susan (William) Cooperrider and Linda (William) Butsko, his grandson Nicholas Cooperrider and many nieces and nephews. He retired from the Ohio Department of Liquor Control and was a former member of the Westerville Model Airplane Flying Club.
