Eugene F. Hoppe, a resident of Friendship Village of Dublin, age 89, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 8, 2013. Gene was born in Mansfield, OH on May 19, 1924 to the late Herman and Flossie Hoppe. He was preceded in death by wife, Maxine Hoppe, daughter, Kathryn Kahler-Hoppe, and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Harold Hoppe. He graduated from Elgin High School, and then attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gene served in the Navy as a Lieutenant during World War II as well as an Executive Officer in the Naval Reserves. After working for Elgin National Watch Company from 1947 to 1965, he then took a position with Stallman Gear, a division of Figgie International, where he retired as President in 1990. Gene spent many happy years in retirement playing cards and attending other special events at the Hilliard Senior Center. He was a member of First Community Church. Throughout his life, Gene actively pursued his passion and love of music mastering both the piano and the organ. Gene is survived by daughter, Deborah (Frank) Cautela, and sons, Mark Hoppe and Robert (Lisa) Hoppe. Gene is survived by seven grandchildren, Frank and Kelsey Cautela, Steven and Jessica Hoppe, Brian and Michelle Hoppe, and Michael Hoppe-Spink. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff and attending physicians at Dublin Methodist Hospital. Family will receive friends Friday 4-7 pm at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. A celebration of life service will be held 11 am Saturday at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hilliard Senior Center in his honor, 3810 Veterans Memorial Drive, Hilliard, OH 43026.
