Fred Norman Fortner on March 4, 2009 at Mount Carmel West Hospital following a stroke. Norm was born on October 30, 1927 in Anderson, Indiana. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernie and Dimple (Murray) Fortner. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty (Linkins) Fortner; children, Barbara, Jeff, Don (Karen) and Janet; grandchildren, Stephanie and Elizabeth Buening; sister, Ilene Bertschman (Charles, deceased); nephew and niece, Chuck (Cheryl) Bertschman and Patti (Bill) Haddad. Member of the Armed Forces Military Police; served in Germany during the post-war occupation and during the Korean War. Graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Norm was a customer engineer with IBM for 34 years with many long-time, loyal customers. He served on the Hilliard Planning and Zoning Commission for two decades, including many years as chairman. After he retired from IBM, he was an active member of the Northwest Franklin County Historical Society for 15 years, including a term as president. Family will receive friends Sunday March, 8, 2009 2-5 pm at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard; where funeral service will be held Monday, March 9, 2009 at 11 am. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northwest Franklin County Historical Society, 5274 Norwich Street, Hilliard, Ohio, 43026.
