Frederick Muse, 95, passed away on March 12, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on July 23, 1929, in Zanesville, Ohio, Fred lived a long and fulfilling life dedicated to his family, his community, and his craft.
Fred proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he found his calling as a barber – a profession that became more than just a job; it was a lifelong passion. Beginning his career in 1958, Fred became known as THE barber of Dresden, Ohio. He continued cutting hair well into his 80s, retiring at the remarkable age of 83. His barbershop was more than a place for a haircut – it was a gathering spot where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and friendships flourished.
Beyond his work, Fred’s greatest joy was his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Muse right after graduating from High School. Together, they built a life filled with love, and enduring the trials and tribulations of life - their marriage lasted 68 years until her passing in May 2016. Fred is survived by two daughters Karen Muse (Patrick Maynard) and Suzanne Rezac (Greg Rezac), five grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, and most recently, a great-great grandson. Fred is also survived by a brother, Junior Muse, and a sister, Shirley Muse- Phillips. His legacy lives on through them and the countless lives he touched throughout the years.
Fred’s grandson Blaine beautifully summed up his life by saying that Fred was a constant reminder that a simple life dedicated to the service of others is a life well served. Though he made his living as a barber, his true profession was making people laugh and smile – a gift he shared generously with everyone who walked through his door.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025, at Dresden Presbyterian Church, located at 808 High St, Dresden, Ohio, where Fred was a life-long member. Following the church service, Military Rites will be conducted at the Dresden American Legion Hall to honor Fred’s service to his country.
Fred Muse leaves behind not only cherished memories but also an enduring example of kindness and dedication to others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
