Gary McNeil

Gary Kenneth McNeil departed this life on Good Friday, April 7, 2023 at Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus, Ohio after a sudden illness. He was born to the late Augustus and Carrie (Murphy) McNeil on September 26, 1937 in Holden, WV. He retired from Arch (Amherst) Coal Company in 1988, and had also worked as a Federal Mine Inspector. 

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janet (Strid) formerly of Chicago, IL; son Gary Kevin of Winter Haven Fl; grandsons Gary Michael McNeil and Andrew Craig Lyall; sister Judy Compton of Barboursville, WV; sons in law, Craig Lyall of McConnell WV and Audie Clemens of Holden, WV; Mother in law Jean Wilson of Chicago, IL; special Uncle, Dexter McNeil, who he roamed the mountains of Holden, WV with, and his precious Granny, Emma McNeil.

              Those who are blessed to remember him include, sisters Becky (Jim) Souliere; Debby (Jerry) Bailey; one brother, Jim (Wilda) McNeil; one daughter, Constance McNeil; sons Michael (Vicky); Greg (Kathy); Steven (Twig); and Shawn (Lissa) where he made his home; Granddaughters include Lisa Thorpe, Ashley McNeil, Kristi McNeil, Samantha Clemens, Emily McConville, and Meghan McNeil. Grandsons are Brian McNeil; Stephen McNeil; Tyler Andrew, Spencer Ryan, Braeden Abel McNeil, and partner in crime, Levi Clemens. Also surviving are several Great and Great Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and faithful companion, Molli.

             Per his request, he has been cremated and there will be no services. His wish would be to send a donation to St Jude’s Hospital in his memory.
