Gary Lee Smith, age 77, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018. Born in Gauley Bridge, WV to the late W.E. “Smitty” and Margaret Smith. Gary was a graduate of Columbus Central High School and retired from Liebert Corp. after 37 years of service where he was Head Facilities Electrical Engineer. He was a proud member and Instructor of IBEW, Local #683. He attended Dublin Baptist Church. Gary was a member and instructor for IAEI for many years. Gary designed and built the electrical portion of Hilliard First Baptist Church. He received an honorary degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Gary was an electrical and electrical code savant. He was preceded in death by his parents Smitty and Margaret Smith, sister Betty Marcum, brother Paul Legg and his grandson Beau Gray. He is survived by his brothers Glenville (Rita) Smith of Cape Girardeau, MO and Rick (Anna) Smith of Mechanicsburg, OH; his children: Lisa (Randall J.) Parsons of Grove City, OH, Gary Alan Smith of Dublin, OH, Andrew C. (Chelsea) Smith of Lewis Center, OH and Lora Lea (Thomas D.) Karn of Westerville, OH; his grandchildren: Alexandria (Ethan) Lavigne, Adrianna Parsons, Jared Alan (Tyler) Smith-Valentine, Aaron Nicholas Smith, Chloe Jackson, Elizabeth Lea Gray, Eleah A. Gray, Evona Lora Gray, Ethan Alec Gray and Ellanora Ann Karn, and many cousins and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m. TUESDAY at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 where his Funeral Service will be held 10:00a.m. WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2018. Burial will follow at Jerome Township Cemetery.
