Gary Lee Vogelsang

d. July 2, 2021

Gary Lee Vogelsang, age 82, of Columbus, OH, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born in Mt. Vernon, OH, Gary was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Myrtle Catherine Vogelsang. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years and 27 days, JoAnn Vogelsang, his children Melissa (Donald) Christian and Brian (Nacole) Vogelsang, three grandchildren: Christopher (Elizabeth) Pennington, Brandon Vogelsang and Aaron Vogelsang; step-grandchildren: Nikki (Mike) Christian and Leha (Ollie) Christian; four great-grandchildren: Mariah, AJ, Neaveh and Carleigh; his brothers and sister: Tom Vogelsang, Dale Vogelsang and Andy Elzey, and many friends. Gary was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Gary loved to take his children and grandchildren fishing. He enjoyed catfishing and carp fishing and, together with his son Brian and grandson Brandon, had many memorable trips to Lake Erie catching smallmouth bass and walleye. In his younger years, he also enjoyed camping and the chance to get away after a long work week for a weekend escape with his family. Gary enjoyed bowling, too, and was in several leagues with JoAnn, winning numerous trophies which he kept displayed on his dresser. He loved golfing with his son and grandkids, which he preferred over golfing with friends. He enjoyed watching tournaments on TV and attending the Memorial Tournament. Gary had a wonderful, powerful singing voice and was always singing around the house. His love of music was as varied as Elvis, Neil Diamond, Al Jolson, Barbra Streisand, Susan Boyle and John Denver, just to name a few. Gary loved to sing. He took great pride in his work as a printing press operator. His son Brian would often stop in to see his father work and witnessed hard work, but work that his dad enjoyed. Gary led his family by example. They witnessed a work ethic, commitment to family, love of country, patience, forgiveness, kindness and compassion. Always avoiding confrontation, Gary never held grudges and always gave others the benefit of the doubt. He loved animals and always had a pet which he considered to be a part of his family. His family has observed a private Memorial Service and there will be no public visitation. Arrangements were entrusted to the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722.
