George R. Hoeflinger, MD, age 87 of Hilliard passed away Monday, July 6, 2009. Preceded in death by wife Rachel Hoeflinger, father G. Harold Hoeflinger, mother Gertrude E. Hoeflinger, and sister Dortha Jane Walter. Survived by children Sally (John) McAlister, Jean Oldfather, Linda Kossmann and G. Edward (Marilyn) Hoeflinger, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Graduate of Columbus North High 1939, graduate of The Ohio State University with a BA with Honors, Phi Beta Kappa in 1943, Scholar Athlete of 1943, O.S.U. Medical School Graduate in 1946 with Honors, Captain in the Army Medical Corp. Member of Hilliard United Methodist Church, family practice physician in Hilliard from 1949-1995, charter fellow of American Board of Family Practice and Certified Diplomat. Member of Hilliard Kiwanis Club, past member of Columbus Symphony Chorus and Worthington Chorus, Hilliard Art Council Chorus,Chorus Columbus and Key Choral of Sarasota, FL. He was an avid fisherman, bicyclist, hunter and he raised, breed, trained and raced harness horses. He was a past member of the Franklin County Fair Board. Family will receive friends 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard. Funeral service will be held 10am Friday at the Hilliard United Methodist Church, 5445 Scioto Darby Rd., Hilliard with Pastor David Ziegel officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, The Kiwanis Club or the Hilliard United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
