Gilda (Townsley) Geyer, age 89, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2016, at her daughter's home in Dublin, Ohio. Gilda entered into eternal peace after years of a valiant fight with congestive heart failure. Born on March 3, 1927, in Star City, Indiana, Gilda and her family moved to Columbus when she was a young girl. She graduated from Linden McKinley High School in Columbus and retired from The Ohio State University in 1992. For many years, Gilda and her husband, Kenny Geyer, whom she married on June 9, 1951, enjoyed volunteering at St. James Lutheran Church's annual Brats and Crafts Festival. Gilda was recognized often for perfect attendance at St. James Lutheran until her health declined. She loved sports her entire life and her sports knowledge was a source of amazement to all who met her. Gilda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Kenny, father B. Clare Townsley, mother and stepfather Ilo and Ralph Wert, brother and sister-in-law Carl and Terry Townsley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Dorothy Dellinger and brothers-in-law Ralph Hyland and Bob Geyer. Gilda is survived by her loving daughter, Judi Slack; adoring grandchildren, Christopher and Jenni Slack; sisters-in-law, Marge Hyland and Martha Geyer; nieces, nephews and friends. With her unconditional love, Gilda saw the best in everyone. She brightened so many lives with her beautiful smile and will be greatly missed. Gilda's family will receive friends 10:30 a.m.-12 noon on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at St. James Lutheran Church, 5660 Trabue Road, Columbus, Ohio, where the funeral service will be held at 12 noon, with Pastor John Hood officiating. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Columbus. Arrangements entrusted to TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Hilliard, Ohio.
