Harold Brown died peacefully July 17, 2018 surrounded by the comfort of family at home in Hilliard, Ohio.  He was 84 years old. He is survived by Beth, his wife of 62 years; children Betsy (Tim) Schmalenberger, Bob Sparks (son-in-law), Paul (Kara Bodle) Brown, Nancy (David) Hafler, Phil (Melissa) Brown and 10 grandchildren:  Tyler, Kyla & Megan Schmalenberger, Carley & Cameron Sparks, Jared Brown & Maggie (Sam) Coughlin, Owen Hafler, Natalie & Nick Brown; sisters Doris Huffman and Lois George, brother-in-law Don Montgomery, and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janice Montgomery and daughter Karen Sparks. Harold was born on Dec. 14, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Christian Harold Brown and Wilma Florence (Kiechle) and graduated from Hilliard High School in 1952.  He married Elizabeth (Beth Sheets) in 1956. Harold was an accomplished woodworker who spent his adult life as a builder, finish carpenter and cabinet maker.  He took great pride in his craft. During his career, Harold worked for Armstrong Builders, H.J. Upperman & Sons, Jones Lumber and Ralph Fallon Builders.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Rome; where he enjoyed playing Dart Ball, previous board member of Northwest Franklin County Historical Society in Hilliard and past President and lifetime member of the Central Ohio Anglers and Hunters Club.  Harold served in the U.S. Army in Germany Battery Armored Division. He and Beth enjoyed owning property in Athens County.  Harold loved the outdoors and exposing his children and grandchildren to the joys of camping.  Family will hold calling hours Saturday, July 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave., Columbus, OH 43228.  Funeral Service will be presided by Pastor Bill McKee immediately following.  A luncheon reception will follow; all are welcome to attend and celebrate Harold’s life.  The family would like to thank Dr. Zangmeister and his caring team along with the devoted staff from Mt. Carmel Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Mt. Carmel Hospice at 1144 Dublin Rd. Columbus, OH 43215.
