Harold “Gene” Lindsey, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010. From 1941-1945 he served as a member of the Army Air Force as a ball turret gunner on a B17 known as the Wildfire. After serving 16 months in the German prison camps, he was liberated April 28, 1945. He served 36 years for the Pickaway County School Board. He served 26 years on the United Ohio and Ohio Mutual Insurance Board. Lifetime member of the Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church. 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge #269 of Mt. Sterling, OH where he became a 32nd Degree Mason. Member of the K.P. Lodge and American Legion of Mt. Sterling. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan; fisherman, and shuffleboard player. Preceded in death by wife of 30 years, Marjorie (Schwart) Lindsey; 2nd wife, Kathleen (Dolphin) Lindsey; son, Ernie Lindsey; parents, Thomas and Bertha (Campbell) Lindsey; brothers, Bernard, Paul, Russell, and Thomas Jr. Lindsey. Survived by daughter, Sonya Lindsey; very special friend, David Gilkerson; daughter-in-law, Linda Lindsey; grandchildren, Jimmy (Cathy) Lindsey, Tammy (Ed) Bennett, Jonathan (Tracey) Lindsey, and Tara (Travis) Sims; 17 great grandchildren; 2 step-daughters; 1 step-son; 7 step-grandchildren; and special friend, Sheila Haddix. Numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8pm at THE PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME 331 W. Main St. Mt. Sterling, OH 43143 where a Masonic service will take place at 8pm. Funeral services will take place 11am Saturday with Mike Berne officiating. Interment Washington Cemetery, Washington Court House. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 110 S. London St. Mt. Sterling, OH 43143.
