Helen M. Honeywell Slater, 88, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Darby Glen Nursing Center in Hilliard, Ohio. She was born on July 4, 1925, the fourth child of the late Elizabeth and Howard Honeywell. She was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and servant for our Lord to others.
She worked at Gould National Battery until suffering a back injury, then went back to school and became a self-employed beautician. She loved doing hair through which she acquired many friends. In her 80s, she was still driving her friends to dinner and bowling 2 days a week. She loved to take “the bus” to Wheeling and Columbus casinos to enjoy the day with her elderly friends. She always seemed to have that “lucky streak.”
Mother is survived by one sister, Irene (John) Dalton of Eaglepoint, Oregon, four daughters; Karen (James) Greer of McConnelsville; Ohio; Sheila (James) Stookey of Galena, Ohio; Patricia (Joe) Weldon of Tallassee, Alabama; and Teresa (Steve) Clark of Philo, Ohio. Mother was blessed with 8 grandchildren; Kim (Steve) Hann of McConnelsville, Ohio; Bill (Liana) Greer of Nashville, Tennessee; Amy (Kyle) Johnson of New Albany, Ohio; Emily (Brian) Foulke of Hilliard, Ohio; Troy (Melinda) Maxwell of Auburn, Alabama, Erin (Dean) Burkhart of Nashport, Ohio, Matthew (Lindsay) Fusner of LaGrange, Kentucky, and 10 great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Todd (T.J) Maxwell of Montgomery, Alabama preceded her death in May 1991.
