Howard William “Bill” Verwohlt, age 84, of Hilliard, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2013. He retired from Nationwide Insurance and the City of Hilliard. Born in Cleveland, OH to Charlotte F. and Howard W. Verwohlt. Graduated from Upper Arlington High School and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Marketing. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the ROTC program at OSU, graduating a 2nd Lt. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, woodworking, camping, and traveling with his family, especially when his children were growing up. He was a 50 year member of the Hilliard Lions Club, American Legion Post #614, and actively supported the Red Cross blood donor program. Prior to his employment with the City of Hilliard, he enjoyed his participation in city government, serving several years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, many of those years as chairman. Preceded in death by his parents and special aunt Anna H. Verwohlt. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59+ years Jean, daughter Chrys Larson, sons Jeffrey and Douglas Verwohlt, granddaughters Sara and Stacy Larson, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, caring neighbors, and friends. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 pm at THE TIDD FUNERAL HOME 5265 Norwich St. Hilliard, OH 43026 where a funeral service will be held 11 am Monday with the Rev. James M. Long officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or the Hilliard Lions Club.
