Ivan Charles (“Chuck”) Rausch, of Hilliard passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the age of 93 after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease and a brief battle with cancer. Ivan was a 64-year resident of Hilliard and a life-long resident of central Ohio. He was born May 12, 1930 in Marysville, Ohio to August and Bertha Rausch. Ivan was raised in Marysville, attended St. Johns Lutheran Christian School, and was a 1948 graduate of Marysville high school. Following high school, Ivan served in the United States Army 8th Cavalry Medical Corps in the Korean War from 1949-1952, stationed in both Guam and Korea. Soon afterward, he met the love of his life and his life-long partner, Jacquellyn Falstick of Westerville, while on a blind-date. Jackie and Ivan dated for 6 years and were married on June 20, 1959. They immediately built their first and only house in Hilliard where they raised three children. Ivan was employed at the former Ranco, Inc. in Plain City for over 42 years, working in the stock room. He was a 64-year member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dublin, serving the church in many capacities and participating in many activities. Ivan served as a trustee and elder on the Church Council, played on the dartball team (a baseball game played with darts), and taped and delivered Sunday worship services to shut-ins of St. John for over 20 years. Ivan didn’t have any personal hobbies – his hobbies were “puttering around” and helping others. Whether it was making cotton candy on Thursday night for the concession stand at a Friday night high school football game, shoveling his neighbor’s driveways in the winter, or delivering Sunday worship tapes to shut-ins, Ivan was always willing to help others and expect nothing in return. He was active with the Hilliard High School Music Boosters while his children were in high school, driving the high school band instrument bus to football games and band contests for a number of years. Ivan continued to enjoy attending high school football games in Hilliard for many years, even following the 2006 Hilliard Davidson team throughout their playoff run and state championship. He also enjoyed his lunches and the fellowship at the Hilliard Senior Center in his later years.
Ivan is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jackie; parents, August & Bertha Rausch; step-mother Louisa Rausch; sister Clarice (Leroy) Nicol of Marysville; and brother Marlow (Jean) Rausch of Columbus. Ivan is survived by sons Clark (Corry) Rausch of Columbus, Bret (Laurie Roberts) Rausch of Galloway, and daughter Wendy Hambel of Columbus. Ivan is also survived by the pride and joy of his life, his six grandchildren - Brandan (Jayme) Rausch, Adrienne Rausch, Drew and Bailey Rausch, and Alex (Allyson) and Morgan Hambel, as well as four great grandchildren, Kaylee Vegliack, Ezekiel Lowe, Avery and Piper Rausch, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Carriage Court Assisted Living Facility of Hilliard, especially Ivan’s special caretaker Robin, for their loving care and support the past three years. As Ivan told you many times, “Danke Schoen”! The family also thanks Ohio Health Hospice for their support the past three months.
