Jack Headlee, age 87, life-long Hilliard resident, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012. He was the founder of Jack’s Appliance in Old Hilliard, now owned and operated by his daughter, son-in-law and grandsons; which is one of the oldest existing businesses in Hilliard. He proudly served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Jack was a long-time member of Hilliard United Methodist Church. He was the oldest past commander of the American Legion and was a long-time member of Post #614. Jack was always very active in the Hilliard community, where he served as a former city councilman. He always felt that supporting local businesses and schools was imperative. He was also a member of the Northwest Franklin County Historical Society. He enjoyed spending the winters in Sarasota, FL and weekends on Indian Lake. He loved to cheer on the Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. First and foremost, he was a family man. His fondest memories consist of family, especially making apple dumplings with all his grandchildren. He was the epitome of a husband, father, and grandfather. His gentle spirit and wonderful storytelling will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Virgil Headlee and sister, Mildred Porter. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lavonne Headlee; daughters, Dianna (Ron) Schwerin, Arlene (Rick) Tidd, and Sheila (Dave) Mitchell; brother, Carl (Kathryn) Headlee; grandchildren, Stacey (Steve) Zawisza, Shelly (Steve) Baird, Julie Schwerin, Mark (Wendi) Mitchell, Chris (Tiffany) Mitchell, and Josh (Dana) Tidd; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Zawisza, Kendall, Brody, and Logan Baird, Hunter, Hallie, Halana and Hayden Mitchell, Mia Mitchell; sister-in-law, Patty (Cobb) Dill; special niece, Denise Porter, who has offered much love and support; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Family will receive friends 4-8 pm Wednesday at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday with Pastor David Ziegel officiating. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Lori Sullivan, the caregivers at Home Care Assistance, and Odyssey Hospice for all their professionalism and loving care.
