James R. Deitz

d. October 4, 2010

James R. Deitz, CPA, 82, passed away October 4, 2010 at Grant Hospital. He was born 19 June 1928 to the late Louis J. Deitz and Rose Ann Dechant Deitz in Clarion, PA. Jim was graduated from Clarion Limestone HS in Clarion and received certificates and degrees from the US Army Finance School, City College of New York City, Ohio State University in Accounting, and passed the CPA examination. He was a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the National Association of Tax Professionals. He retired from fulltime employment from the Defense Contract Audit Agency, but most will remember him as the “Tax Guy” who helped so many with their tax returns for nearly 50 years. Jim was a Sergeant in the Military Police as part of the Occupational Army in Germany and a 1st Lt in the Army Reserves. Jim was active in many veterans’ organizations and a life member of VFW Post 4931, serving as Chaplain of that Post and as a member of their Color Guard. Jim was very passionate about support for veterans and their needs and many will remember him distributing poppies around Hilliard. One of his great joys was hosting veterans at luncheons at the VFW Post, fishing outings for them at the Delaware home, gathering Christmas gifts to fill veteran’s wish lists and delivering those gifts just before Christmas. He solicited idle, but useful items such as clothing and electric wheel chairs for free distribution to veterans through Veterans First Fdn. Many will remember him as “Mr. Story Teller” he had a million stories and jokes and loved sharing them with his many friends. Road trips were a particular joy. Linda worked on her genealogy and Jim roamed the various towns making new friends, learning new things – mostly new stories. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 19 years, Linda who called him Jimmy D, his sons Richard and Paul, his daughter Debora, his step-son Bryan Wooden, his large extended family, and his many dear friends. We celebrate having known him. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday, October 7, 2010 and a funeral service on Friday, October 8 at 11:00 am at TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St, Hilliard.
